The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Events Manager who is both creative and strategic. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the power of storytelling through events and will be adept at showcasing the life-changing impact of our program. We are working with girls and young women who are creating meaningful change in their communities, and our events provide opportunities to highlight the impact of our tech education and skill-building programs. As an Events Manager at Technovation, you will play a crucial role in amplifying our organization’s thought leadership and showcasing the achievements of our participants and alumnae.

The main focus of this role will be to support fundraising efforts, emphasizing the importance of cultivating relationships with donors and corporate partners through meaningful events and experiences. The Events Manager will work closely with all teams at Technovation to ensure that events align with organizational goals and objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an events calendar for the organization, aligning with the timeline and objectives of each team, while also assisting teams in fulfilling specific event requests to meet goals such as participant registration, program milestone celebrations, and network expansion. Events will be a mix of virtual and in-person with an estimated audience of 100-300 people per event
  • Identify, create, develop, and amplify the most suitable formats and content for each event.
  • Collaborate with various teams at Technovation to:
    • Curate Technovation resources to meet specific needs for building or strengthening relationships with donors and corporate partners.
    • Lead the logistics of each engagement opportunity.
    • Craft event agendas that effectively demonstrate Technovation’s thought leadership, impact, and incorporate diverse perspectives from key stakeholders.
  • Plan all logistical elements of events and project-manage the proper execution of logistics, including registration, transportation, hotel accommodations, and speaker coordination.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Team and others to develop content assets that amplify each opportunity across Technovation communication channels. Also, provide donors and partners with content to showcase and amplify their support to Technovation in their internal communications.
  • Support the CEO’s thought leadership speaking strategy by collaborating with the CBO and PR team to secure speaking opportunities at industry events. This includes tasks such as handling applications, submitting necessary information, and coordinating with other event teams for the CEO’s speaking logistics.
  • Assist with scheduling and planning travel arrangements for other Technovation spokespersons attending in-person events.
  • Manage financial aspects, including budget development and management, expense management, invoice processing, timely post-meeting reconciliation, final financial reporting, and cost analysis.
  • Conduct post-event wrap-up activities, including attendee surveys, budget reconciliation, observations, suggestions for the following year, and event debrief with the leadership team.
  • While the Events Manager will primarily plan and execute events remotely, they must be willing and able to travel within the U.S. (three to five times per year) and internationally (once or twice per year).

Ideal Candidate Skills

  • 3-6 years of event management experience
  • Event planning and management: Demonstrated experience in planning and executing successful events, including mid to large-scale conferences, roadshows, Board meetings, expos.
  • Strategic thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategic event plans that align with organizational goals and objectives, with a focus on maximizing impact and ROI.
  • Relationship building: Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with sponsors, corporate partners, vendors, and other key stakeholders including donors, as well as internal teams and staff members.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission, values, and impact to a diverse range of audiences.
  • Creativity and innovation: Innovative thinking and creativity in designing and implementing engaging and impactful events that capture the attention and interest of partners, donors, participants and stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and adaptability: Ability to anticipate and address challenges, think critically, and adapt quickly to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • Project management: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of event technology: Familiarity with event management software, online registration platforms, virtual event platforms, and other relevant technologies to streamline event planning and execution.
  • Passion for gender equity and youth empowerment: Genuine passion for advancing gender equity and empowering young women and girls through education, skill-building, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Preferred: Proficient in Google Suite,  Asana, and virtual event platforms

Great to have

  • Fundraising expertise: Strong fundraising skills, including experience in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Knowledge of grant writing and sponsorship acquisition is also desirable.
  • Experience organizing activities for underage audiences like field trips and company tours, including logistical guidelines and requirements: Candidates should have firsthand experience organizing activities tailored for underage audiences, such as field trips or company tours. This includes understanding logistical considerations like transportation, safety protocols, and scheduling requirements. The ability to plan and execute age-appropriate activities that are both educational and engaging is crucial for creating memorable experiences for participants.
  • Proficiency in designing and facilitating large group activities: Demonstrated expertise in conceptualizing and crafting engaging and interactive group activities, workshops, and sessions tailored to diverse audiences, including students, educators, corporate partners, and community members. Skilled in creating dynamic and inclusive environments that foster collaboration, creativity, and meaningful participation, while ensuring alignment with overarching objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Experience with logistics for C-level executives and government representatives is a valuable asset. This includes coordinating and managing all aspects of their participation in events and proficiency in handling the specific requirements and protocols associated with high-profile individuals adds significant value to event planning and management.
  • Experience with creative/art direction a plus
