Collaboration brings underrepresented AI and mobile app innovators from around the world to MIT campus for education and networking opportunities.

Today Technovation is excited to announce it will host its annual Technovation World Summit at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this August 10-14, 2020. Taking place on MIT’s Cambridge campus, the Technovation World Summit (formerly named World Pitch) is the culmination of the organization’s annual programs: Technovation Girls and Technovation Families. Both programs challenge participants across the world to develop a mobile app or AI prototype that solves an important issue they’ve identified in their community. Technovation World Summit will run in conjunction with the Institute’s annual MIT App Inventor Summit, a gathering of the world-wide App Inventor community hosted by the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).

“We have been a long-time collaborator with Technovation and are incredibly excited to host finalists from its mobile app and AI challenges on our campus,” said MIT Professor Hal Abelson. “Every year, the MIT App Inventor Summit brings together a diverse range of individuals; we look forward to adding the unique perspectives and innovations of the girls and families participating in Technovation’s programs to the conversations taking place on campus that week and to continuing to encourage and empower underrepresented individuals around the world to use technology for good.”

During the week-long World Summit, 50+ finalists from both Technovation programs will learn more about AI, mobile app development, and creative problem solving through hands-on challenges while networking with each other and technology industry leaders throughout the greater Boston area. Culminating at the World Summit Championship Event on August 13, finalists from both programs will pitch their mobile app and AI-based solutions to a panel of industry-based judges.

“We’re thrilled to strengthen our relationship with MIT by hosting our annual Technovation World Summit on campus,” said Tara Chklovski, CEO & Founder of Technovation. “After months of hard work by girls and families around the world, the World Summit is an extended learning opportunity and celebration of the potential for technology to do good in the world. As a well-respected, global institution driven to make a better world through education, research, and innovation, MIT is the perfect location for our World Summit and support our mission to empower everyone – regardless of age, gender, race or country of origin — to believe themselves capable of learning and using new skills to solve global problems facing all of us.”
