25 Million Future Shapers Forum
The 25 MILLION FEMALE FUTURE SHAPERS sideline event at UNGA’s Summit of the Future, hosted by TAIFA, will elevate the issue of gender equality in AI. This forum will showcase the progress made in achieving gender parity in leadership and discuss strategies to address structural barriers hindering women’s participation in the tech industry. Attendees will gain valuable insights and practical tools to promote inclusive processes, support women’s career development, and ultimately double the representation of women in AI and tech.
This event is an opportunity to accelerate progress towards a more equitable and innovative future, where girls and young women are empowered to shape the AI revolution.

She currently oversees the delivery of Break Through Tech's work-based learning programs in computing and AI.
Phil Gilchrist is TE Connectivity's Chief Transformation Officer for AI and Sustainability. With over a decade at TE, Phil previously led global engineering and innovation as VP and CTO of the Communications Solutions segment. He also held senior tech roles at Motorola and co-founded a tech startup. Phil is a published author and patent holder, and has served on various advisory boards.
Karen Pavlin, Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer at ServiceNow, leads global DEI efforts, fostering an inclusive and equitable culture at ServiceNow and in the communities it reaches. With 30+ years of experience, she's built dynamic, purpose-driven teams and championed women in tech. Karen holds degrees from the University of Virginia and is a passionate advocate for the arts and youth development.
Sana Khareghani has over 20 years’ experience in technology and business. She has worked as a software engineer in big corporations and start-ups, as a management consultant to senior officials in North America, Europe and the Middle East, and in HMG, as the inaugural Head of the UK Government Office for AI leading the team to publish the UK's National AI Strategy. Most recently, Sana is Professor of Practice in AI at King's College London and AI Policy lead for Responsible AI UK.
Professor Mariatou Koné is the Minister of National Education and Literacy for the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire and the President of the Conference of Ministers of Education of French-Speaking Countries (CONFEMEN). A distinguished socio-anthropologist, she has extensive experience in social development and peacebuilding. Her expertise spans various fields like education, gender, and land rights. She is a recognized leader, serving on international commissions and receiving numerous distinctions for her contributions.
Kevin Frey is the CEO of Generation Unlimited. Prior to that he served as the CEO of Right To Play — an international development organization to protect, educate, and empower children and youth. Before Right To Play, Kevin spent 15 years in the international and higher education sectors, most recently leading Canada’s top-ranked MBA program at the University of Toronto as the Managing Director.
Avis Yates Rivers is the CEO of TCGi, a multi-million-dollar technology company she founded. A 2024 E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist, Avis champions minority and women-owned businesses in tech. She founded the TCGi Foundation to support Black girls and women pursuing computing careers.
Sarah Henderson Rosenberg (Hendo) is a Senior Program Manager at Google.org working on Education for Social Impact. She has over 12 years of experience building and growing CS education programs and partnerships at Google.
Zubaida Bai is the President and CEO of Grameen Foundation, which operates at the intersection of gender, financial inclusion, and climate. The foundation tackles deep-rooted systemic barriers, enabling women to escape poverty. Leveraging her engineering and social entrepreneurship background, Zubaida aims to eradicate poverty through sustainable development and transformative social impact.
Wycliffe Otieno, previously worked as Chief, Education and Adolescent Development (South Africa, Eastern Caribbean, and Papua New Guinea). Prior to joining UNICEF, he worked as a Research Associate, Institute of Policy Analysis and Research, Kenya; Lecturer, Kenyatta University; Education Specialist, World Bank; Programme Advisor; among others. He holds a PhD in Educational Planning and a masters degree in economics of education.
Tara Chklovski is the Founder & CEO of Technovation. Technovation has empowered 400,000 participants in 120+ countries to tackle local problems using technology. Tara was featured in the award-winning documentary Codegirl, and named “the pioneer empowering the incredible tech girls of the future” by Forbes. Technovation has a strategic plan to empower 25 million girls with AI & technology entrepreneurship skills to meet the UN 2030 Sustainable Development goals.

Dafne Sarfati is a junior at Columbia University majoring in Industrial Engineering and minoring in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, she participated in Technovation in 2018-2020, and was a Student Ambassador representing Turkey in 2019-2022. Through Technovation, she realized her passion for creating social good and impactful solutions to global challenges through technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Vaneezeh Siddiqui is an early-stage venture investor based in NYC. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a major in statistics and minors in computer science and business. She founded her undergraduate Women in Science and Computing team, was an advisor at Accelerate Her Future, and is a mentor with the Women Founders Project and Girls Who VC. She completed the Technovation program in 2018.
Soumya Tejam is a Technovation 2015 alumna, currently leading go-to-markets efforts at Sardine, a series-B fintech. She's spent her career working with startups, previously in go-to-market roles at Cameo, Coda and OnDeck and investing in under-represented founders with Harlem Capital and climate-tech startups with Blackhorn Ventures.
Hannah is a software engineer at Google where she has built features on Jamboard, Google Finance, and Google Search. She is from Columbia, Maryland and studied Computer Science and Technology Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland. Hannah was the team lead for her high school's Technovation team in 2015.

Builders of Better AI: Responsible AI Hackathon
The Responsible AI Hackathon is a dynamic and engaging event designed to introduce girls to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the responsible use of it in innovation.
Hosted at the prestigious Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi in partnership with Responsible AI UK and Technovation, this hackathon aims to inspire and empower the next generation of female leaders in technology.
Schedule:
Welcome Address: Opening remarks by representatives from IIIT, Responsible AI UK, and Technovation.
Introduction to AI: A brief presentation on AI fundamentals, including machine learning, neural networks, and real-world applications.
Problem Identification: Participants will be guided through an activity to identify a problem in their communities that they will develop AI-based solutions for.
Responsible Research & Innovation:
- Why RRI is everyone’s responsibility
- Introduction to RI Cards, presenting the concepts and frameworks underpinning the cards. Example scenarios will offer various content to focus on, such as telepresence in healthcare, AI-driven clinical decision support tools, education support, assistive living, and personalized products for people with disabilities.
- Small-group work: Participants will be supported to apply the 16 RI cards to the problem they are interested in solving. Participants will select one card from each suit (i.e. Anticipate, Reflect, Engage, and Act) that they consider to be particularly relevant or important to their work. Participants will take turns to share their observations within their groups.
Presentation Preparation: Teams will be invited to share short presentations showcasing their AI solutions and RI considerations with the whole group.

A World of AI Driven Tech: Addressing a Global Talent Gap
Technovation and UNICEF brought together leading voices from different fields who have used their tech expertise to excel for a morning of panels, presentations, and networking.
Our goal was to emphasize to young women that tech education is a powerful way to break the glass ceiling and be champions and leaders of empowerment for other girls.
This event was also opportunity to galvanize the support of industry leaders and get their commitment to empowering girls and young women all over the globe.

Wycliffe Otieno, previously worked as Chief, Education and Adolescent Development (South Africa, Eastern Caribbean, and Papua New Guinea). Maya Kulycky is Research VP of Ops and Strategy at Google. Prior to joining the tech industry, Maya served as a correspondent for CNBC. She is a graduate of Yale Law School and holds a MA from the University of London and a BA from The Johns Hopkins University . She is a member of the New York Bar. Her career reflects her passion for justice and to use innovative, sustainable ways of helping ease suffering, while also giving a voice to the disempowered.
Since 2015, Alison has been responsible for applied Artificial Intelligence both around the globe and off Earth, in Space. A mature graduate in AI, she combines computer science with astrophysics & over 30 years of experience in international project management. Consulting on a wide range of applications she also leads NVIDIA's involvement in planetary defence with NASA, ESA & the United Nations for the Frontier Development Laboratory, which she helped establish. Her east & west coast-based US team work closely with many world governments, advising how to harness AI for economic growth, national security & climate action, using NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform.
Dr. Manuela M. Veloso, Head of Artificial Intelligence Research at J.P. Morgan Chase since 2018, leads pioneering AI initiatives in finance. With over 30 years of experience in research and teaching in AI, Dr. Veloso previously held esteemed positions at Carnegie Mellon University, including as a University Professor and Head of the Machine Learning Department. She has been recognized as an Einstein Chair Professor by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. She has a BSc and MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, an MA in Computer Science from Boston University, and a PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
Daphne Koller is CEO and Founder of Insitro, a machine learning-driven drug discovery and development company. Daphne is also co-founder of Engageli, was the Rajeev Motwani Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, where she served on the faculty for 18 years, the co-CEO and President of Coursera, and the Chief Computing Officer of Calico Labs. She is the author of over 300 refereed publications with an h-index of over 150. Daphne was recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2012. She received the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 2004, the ACM Prize in Computing in 2008, the ACM AAAI Allen Newell Award in 2019, and the AnitaB.org Technical Leadership Abie Award Winner in 2022. Daphne was inducted into the National Academy of Science in 2023, into the National Academy of Engineering in 2011 and elected a fellow of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence in 2004, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2014, and the International Society of Computational Biology in 2017.
Regina is a Mexican entrepreneur promoter of Mental Health & Women in Technology, named EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 in Social Impact, 30 promises of Forbes Mexico in 2020 and LinkedIn Top Voice Next Gen. Currently, she is the CEO and co-founder of Cuéntame, a technological platform on a mission to bring access to Mental wellbeing for every person in LATAM and beyond. Cuéntame delivers individual wellbeing, boosts higher productivity and economic advancement addressing the workplace burnout costs billions of dollars annually to the global economy. Elspeth McOmish is a Programme Specialist on gender equality in and through education at UNESCO. Her work focuses on building partnerships for gender-transformative educational planning, girls’ and women’s education, and digital skills development. Prior to joining UNESCO’s Gender Equality Division in Paris, Elspeth worked in the Organization’s Santiago Office, managing programmes on disaster risk reduction, skills development and education for sustainable development. She has degrees in education, history and international law.

Laura Montells is a tech enthusiast and entrepreneur with a background in computer science. As a co-founder of Metricool, she currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer. Metricool specializes in creating tools for social media management. With over ten years of industry experience, Laura integrates technical expertise with strategic insight. Her primary focus lies in utilizing technology to facilitate the success of both businesses and individuals online.
Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at MIT. Cynthia founded and directs the Personal Robots group at the Media Lab, is the MIT Dean for Digital Learning, a leader of MIT Open Learning, and the Director of the MIT-wide initiative on Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (RAISE). She is a founder and pioneer of the field of social robots and has applied this technology to the creation of personalized learning companions for early childhood education. Within RAISE, she pioneers an impact-driven approach to AI education for K12 with a focus on equity and DEI goals through programs like Day of AI and MIT FutureMakers.
As both an entrepreneur and an executive, Kevin has spent his career at the nexus of the private and public sectors, spanning the education, technology, human capital and international development spheres. Prior to joining Generation Unlimited as CEO in 2021, Kevin served as the CEO of Right To Play — an international development organization to protect, educate, and empower children and youth. Kevin founded his first company, TeachAway, a job-matching and professional development platform for teachers. Irina Mirkina is an AI strategist and a leading expert on responsible AI. Working for increasing global awareness of both benefits and risks of artificial intelligence, Dr Mirkina is currently the AI Lead for the Office of Innovation at UNICEF. She is currently serving as a co-chair of Community of Practice on AI for the Digital Public Goods Alliance, a co-organizer of the UN Generative AI Practice Group, a member of the UN Intra-Agency Working Group on AI, and an expert for the European Commission Research Executive Agency. For her work on responsible AI for social good, she has been included in the lists of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™ and Inspired Minds Top 65 Most Influential Women 2023.
Fatou Yeli Kourouma, a student at NYU Stern, is pursuing studies in quantitative economics and sustainable business. Her profound commitment lies in African development and social entrepreneurship. Serving as Chief of Staff at SIA Africa, an African development NGO, Fatou also contributes her expertise as a strategy consultant at Bridges for Enterprise, offering pro-bono consulting to social entrepreneurs in developing regions. Currently, her focus is on developing Baara, a tracking software aimed at enhancing the impact of entrepreneurship incubators in the developing world.
Pasang Wangmo was born in a small village in Tibet and immigrated to New York with her family at the age of eleven. Starting from middle school, she excelled academically and graduated as valedictorian. She participated in Technovation in 2012. Continuing her education in California, she completed high school before attending Emory University. In 2018, Pasang graduated with a degree in Neuroscience. Following graduation, she embarked on a career as an IT project manager, beginning her professional journey with E*Trade, now Morgan Stanley.
Maliha Quadir, the Founding Managing Director of Shohoz, Bangladesh's largest travel and mobility platform, oversees operations with 100+ bus operators, air tickets and Bangladesh Railway's exclusive ticketing platform. An MBA graduate from Harvard Business School, she brings a decade of experience from firms like Morgan Stanley , Standard Charteres Bank, Vistaprint and Nokia. Maliha's leadership has garnered global recognition and numerous awards, including being named among the top 100 Global Female Founders by UK Business Insider and receiving the Young Global Leader recognition from the World Economic Forum. She is also an Executive Fellow at Harvard Business School, contributing to shaping future business leaders.
Sidney, a Stanford undergraduate on leave, built Chord, a venture-backed startup that automatically crowdsources & consolidates consumer opinion. As a Technovation 2019 participant, she developed an application for the detection and mapping of noxious weeds. She's now designing a new kind of hyper-personalized recommendation engine & exploring ideas in climate tech.

The AI Forward Alliance Launch Event
Technovation launched The AI Forward Alliance at an event held in NYC in September 2023. The launch event was a side event of the UN General Assembly and featured remarks and panels from a range of partners and supporters, including Google, UNICEF, and the Grameen Foundation.
Speakers discussed the importance of empowering girls and women with critical thinking skills, technical expertise, and hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies like AI.
