Important: Required Virtual Participation & COVID-19 Updates

Dear Technovation Community,

This is a challenging time, and we sincerely hope you and your families are doing alright, mentally and physically. This community is defined by our collective compassion, resilience, and ingenuity, and we will pull through this unprecedented moment together. We have already seen Technovation teams around the world adapting to virtual participation, and we are moved by your commitment to keeping your communities safe and healthy.

The safety of our communities is of the utmost importance to us as well, which is why effective immediately, Regional Pitch Events will be canceled and all Technovation Girls learning, judging, and celebration events for the 2020 season will move online.

All regional pitch events (in-person and online) must be canceled and you should notify all students, parents, judges and volunteers. All submissions will be judged through our online judging portal. We will not recognize results from in-person events.

We are deeply saddened to cancel celebration and pitch events, but the health and safety of the Technovation community is our top priority. Based on guidance from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, state, local, and national officials, canceling in-person gatherings is the safest option. We know this impacts you and are here to help, if you need.

Additionally, please move all team meetings and Celebration events to virtual calls or other online spaces. We have lots of tips for collaborating online to help you make this transition.

We know this is a difficult moment in time for us all — we are working hard to ensure Technovation continues to provide an exceptional online learning experience and opportunity to support our local communities. All of our curriculum is online, and we are here to support you as we adapt to a different way of learning for the coming months.

Learn more about the changes to our 2020 season below:

Deadlines and date changes: To help you manage the changing dynamics, we are extending some of our deadlines:

  • Registration: Extended to March 30th, 23:00 UTC.
  • Submission: Extended to May 4th, 19:00 UTC. All teams must submit online to be eligible for judging.
  • Judging dates
    • Round 1: May 6th – June 8th
    • Round 2 (Semifinals): June 15th – June 26th

In-person meetings with teams and mentors: All meetings should be moved online to a virtual environment.

Judging and judging events: Out of fairness, all submissions will be judged via Technovation’s online portal. Technovation will organize all judging – we ask that you do not organize online pitching or judging events for your region. Please focus your efforts on guiding teams to submit their app ideas virtually and supporting volunteers in your area as they judge virtually on their own time.

Regional Pitch and Celebration Events: Out of fairness, all submissions will be judged via Technovation’s online portal. We will not recognize results from online pitching events.

What if we are unable to access computers or complete the learning online?: At this time, we recommend you pause your learning, perhaps until our 2021 season. Although we know everyone has been pouring incredible effort into their work this season, we must prioritize public health and safety.

Sponsorships for events: If you have received sponsorship from Technovation to lead an event, we encourage you to modify the use of these funds as needed during this time. If you need to buy materials for teams in your region to go online, you may. If you would like to reserve these funds for future Technovation events, we encourage you to do so.

Thank you for learning and building a better world with us. We are confident in the power of our communities to create positive experiences amid these unprecedented circumstances. Please remember that we are here to support you.
