We’re lucky to have had Kate Parker in our corner for ten years. We are luckier still that she is staying.
Our relationship with Kate started long before she joined the board. When she was at Google, she helped bring CodeGirl to life. The documentary premiered at Grace Hopper, and went on to become one of the most powerful pieces of storytelling Technovation has ever produced. The US Department of State used it to connect with communities in countries around the world. It was proof, at a scale we hadn’t yet imagined, that the next great innovators are already here and already building.
When Kate moved to Uber, we stayed connected, and eventually we asked her to join the board. It was the perfect fit, because she had already proven she could help us grow without losing sight of what mattered. During her tenure, we reached 384,000 girls and mentors and expanded our global footprint across 100+ countries.
The AI era is concentrating opportunity in fewer hands and moving faster than most institutions can follow. Kate has helped guide every strategic turn through the lens of ensuring that no matter where you come from, you have the access and agency to build something that matters.
As Kate steps into her new role as Board Chair Emeritus and Global AI Ambassador, she carries this mission into the conversations shaping the future of AI right now. Those conversations need someone who brings both evidence and vision, and who has spent a decade proving that who builds AI is just as important as what gets built.
Thank you, Kate. While we may not know what lies ahead, we count ourselves lucky that you will be with us for whatever the future holds.
