Why the AI Ventures Accelerator Matters

A global skills crisis is projected for 2030, with 60% of young people lacking essential job skills, disproportionately impacting young women in underserved communities who already face systemic barriers. This exclusion is compounded by a representation gap where women hold only 22% of AI roles, leading to biased systems that fail entire populations. The AI Ventures Accelerator is directly tackling this by providing 1,000 young women with world-class AI skills and entrepreneurial training to launch ventures and become the diverse leaders, innovators, and founders needed to build a more inclusive tech industry.

Technovation

Technovation is a global nonprofit on a mission to empower girls and women to become leaders, creators, and problem-solvers through technology education. Over the past 18 years, Technovation has engaged 350,000+ participants across 160+ countries, providing free project-based learning experiences that teach coding, AI, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills.

Through programs like Technovation Girls, young people work in teams to identify problems in their communities and build technology solutions to address them. Technovation alumnae have gone on to launch successful startups, work at leading tech companies, speak at major conferences, and become advocates for diversity in technology.

As a founding member of The AI Forward Alliance, Technovation is committed to ensuring the next generation of AI is built by diverse voices and serves all communities.

Generation Unlimited

Generation Unlimited is a global public-private-youth partnership hosted by UNICEF and launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2018. GenU is on a mission to skill and connect the world’s 1.8 billion young people to opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

Active in 89 countries, Generation Unlimited brings together governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and most importantly, young people themselves to co-create solutions to the youth skills and employment crisis. Through programs like the Youth Agency Marketplace (YOMA) and imaGen Ventures, GenU has reached 199 million young people with skills training, livelihood opportunities, and entrepreneurship support.

GenU recognizes that young people aren’t just the future. They’re problem-solvers and innovators right now, ready to build the world they want to live in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need technical or AI experience to apply?

No! We welcome participants with all backgrounds and experience levels. You need curiosity, drive, and commitment to learning. Our curriculum is designed to meet you where you are and build your skills from the ground up. Many successful tech entrepreneurs started with zero coding experience.

Can I apply as an individual or do I need a team?

While it is highly recommended to apply with, at least, one other member, you can apply either way. Individual applicants can be matched with others to form teams during the program. We recommend teams of 2-4 for the best experience.

Is the program really completely free?

Yes! The 12-week accelerator is completely free including all curriculum, mentorship, tools, and resources. There are no hidden fees, no costs for materials, and no equity requirements. The top 10 teams also receive equity-free seed funding.

What does “equity-free” seed funding mean?

It means if you win funding, you don’t have to give up any ownership of your company in exchange for the money. The funding is yours to use to build your venture. This is different from traditional venture capital where investors take an ownership stake.

What time commitment is required?

Plan to dedicate 10-15 hours per week for 12 weeks. This includes live workshops, mentorship sessions, team meetings, and independent project work. The program is designed to be flexible for students and working professionals.

I’m not from a UNICEF Program country (see list) or the US. Can I still apply?

Unfortunately for the first rollout of the accelerator, we are unable to accept applications from residents of non-UNICEF Program countries or the US at this time.

What if I don’t currently have a problem in mind, but I still want to participate?

That’s okay, check out this helpful resource to help you and your team identify a problem that is important to you and your community.

What if I don’t have a fully developed idea yet?

That’s okay! Many participants refine their ideas during the first weeks of the program. We want to see that you’ve identified a problem you care about and are thinking about solutions, even if the details aren’t finalized.

What happens after the 12 weeks end?

You’ll join a global network of Technovation and Generation Unlimited alumni with continued access to resources, mentorship opportunities, and community support.
While only the Top 10 finalist teams will be awarded seed funding. The remaining 15 teams within the Top 25 will still receive full incubation support necessary to launch their businesses and secure subsequent funding. All participants gain lifetime access to alumni programs and networks.

How competitive is the program?

We’re selecting 1,000+ participants from a global applicant pool, with the top 10 teams receiving funding. Focus less on competition and more on showing us your passion, your idea, and your commitment to learning and building.

Can my team be in different locations?

Yes, as long as they reside in a UNICEF Program country (see list). The program is designed for remote participation, and teams can collaborate virtually. We provide tools and structure to help distributed teams work effectively together.

What kind of AI solutions can we build?

Any solution that uses AI or machine learning to solve a real problem. This could be mobile apps, web applications, AI-powered tools, or other technologies. We work with you to scope your project appropriately for the 12-week timeframe.

Will there be future cohorts if I can’t apply this year?

This is our inaugural cohort. If successful, we plan to continue the program in future years. If you’re interested in future cohorts, email aiventures@technovation.org to stay informed.
