About Technovation:

Technovation is the world’s largest technology entrepreneurship program for girls.

Our mission is to empower girls to be leaders and changemakers in their communities by equipping them with problem-solving, technical, and leadership skills. Through Technovation, girls around the world work in teams supported by mentors to develop mobile & AI-based solutions to problems in their communities. Girls submit their solutions to a global competition and finalists get the opportunity to pitch live to tech industry leaders. Over the past 16 years we have engaged ~350,000 participants across 120+ countries.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Global Events Manager to run in-person and virtual events that engage all stakeholders (program volunteers, participants, alumnae, and donors) to feel connected to the Technovation community and motivated to get involved. This person will report to the Senior Director of Development. This position is ideal for someone who is very detail-oriented and loves to connect with people and create spaces for community. The largest events that the Events Manager will be responsible for are the Virtual Global Celebration event (World Summit Part 1) where the whole Technovation community virtually celebrates the end of the season and we announce our finalist teams, and then our in-person World Summit (World Summit Part 2) in the San Francisco Bay Area where 15 finalists teams will fly in from around the world to pitch live and interact with our corporate partners in the area. As our programming revives in-person engagement post-pandemic, the new Events Manager will have the opportunity to build out an events strategy and test out new ideas for engaging volunteers, alumnae, and donors.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Own the full life-cycle planning and execution of multiple key events for both digital/virtual and in-person events.
  • Plan and manage virtual events, including confirming appropriate virtual platform, creation of timelines, thorough and regular communications to attendees, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Work cross functionally with Marketing, Fundraising, Programs, Assessment and Leadership teams on driving specific event elements forward – both for virtual and in-person events. While this person will rely on other teams to create content and branded assets, the Global Events Manager is the project manager who will ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner and are coming together in a cohesive way for the best audience experience. A few examples of how you would work with other teams:
    • Marketing Team: Ensuring all events creative is completed and leads to a cohesive experience, including all print and digital design and collateral elements, production on Audio Visual elements for live or in-person events.
    • Fundraising Team: Planning ahead opportunities for current corporate sponsors and strategic potential partners to have a presence during events and engage participants/alumnae as appropriate. This team member will be responsible for creating a memorable experience for the sponsors that will help build the relationship.
    • Program Team: Integrating educational content into the event experience, thinking through underage participant logistical requirements, and ensuring an energetic/engaging experience for participants.
    • Assessment Team: Overseeing attendee management and data collection.
  • Financial management, including: budget development and management, expense management and invoice processing, timely post-meeting reconciliation, final financial reporting and cost analysis.
  • Planning all logistical elements of events and project-managing the proper execution of logistics (ex: registration, transportation, hotel accommodations, and speaker prep/scheduling tasks).
  • Co-plan with colleagues on larger scale events; field questions and offer advice to team members to assist with creative problem solving.

Ideal Candidate:

  • 5-7 years of event management experience
  • Experience developing a high-level data-driven strategy
  • Ability to travel within the U.S. (three to five times per year) and internationally (one time per year)
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams
  • Thrives in fast-paced environment and is comfortable planning amidst ambiguity
  • Handles stressful situations with a positive, flexible, and calm attitude
  • Excellent project manager and leader
  • Good public speaker
  • Ability to lead and facilitate large group activities
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Preferred: Proficient in Google Suite, Asana, and virtual event platforms
